Amanda wanted to see a sample of my (crappy) poetry, so here is the most recent one I wrote. (Yes, I write poetry, and yes, it is immensely crappy.)
LOVESICK
I am the disease you cannot overcome the virus you cannot escape
I will take your dignity and replace it tenderly with total dependence
on me
on my will
on my love for your body the body I destroy with my presence
I will swallow your soul gently as a pearl to fill my abject hunger
my being will fill your blood I will be your new self
they will know you as mine they will watch your old self crumble and wither - leaves in a fire, the heat of sickness -
and you and I
will be reborn
into one
(Edit: Bah! Stupid Blogger cannot take spacings into account! I am peeved.)
Thank you, everyone who SMS-ed, tagged and wished me in person, online or on Facebook. I am touched and honoured that you care about my birthday. :)
Special thanks to my beloved 4E5 for the Friday surprise! And for the thoughtful presents, both Friday's and today's (I'm sharing the chocolates with Mrs Sunil, k :P).
Also, thank you to those from 5N1 who kept wishing me and singing 'Happy Birthday'. HAHA you guys are very funny.
I am 26 now. I don't feel older but I don't feel young either. Oh well, back to the non-birthday days. :)
(OMG I found it! The guy in yellow reminds me of Raymond, now that I think about it. And the one who sings the first verse reminds me of Patrick. The red one is still Ced. LOL.)
(and the mysterious person who wrote "guess who :)"... I am bad at guessing :X Thank you all the same :D)
They gave me a lovely handmade card with well-wishes all over the inside... and Shannon I am not an old hag thanks =.=" LOL.
I am happy now, even though I wore a shirt today that's very red and too short (Eugene told me "cher your fats are protruding". =.=" Thanks for the insight, Eugene). I am happy, because I am loved! I love you guys!
I put my jelly beside my laptop and went for CE. Then when I came back and wanted to eat it I was wondering why it was warm, and then I realised I put it next to the vent for the cooling fan. So all the hot air was blowing on it. =.=' So I am eating warm jelly.

Ten Things I Like About Jesslyn
1. Her bag! It is colourful and has cute monster-looking things on it. LOL.
2. Her voice. It's a bit low for a girl but suits her. It can get very whiny though. Hee.
3. Her preference of music. Still waiting for her to play guitar for me. Rock on, woman.
4. Her big mouth! :D Hahaha ok relax, I mean I like her straightforwardness and ability to speak plainly, though I'm guessing it can get her in a lot of trouble quite often.
5. Her dedication to her CCA. Well, at least what I see seems like dedication. :)
6. Her name. JessssssssssLiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin. Jesslyn. Is it Jessica + Lynne? Jessica + Marilyn? Hey, if you add Jessica to Marilyn do you get Jesslyn and Marcia? :D No actually I think you don't. But Jesslyn is a funky name.
7. Her acting skills. LOL I still remember the skit she was in last year for Teachers' Day celebrations. I can't remember what she was playing but it was highly amusing.
8. Her confidence. Sometimes it's like a powerful aura, sometimes it's almost oozing like honey from a hive, but it definitely sets her apart from most other people.
9. Her sense of humour (though sometimes I have to admit I don't get the joke).
10. The fact that I have yet to discover more things about her that I like :)))

Yesterday I was eating Twister fries. I have concluded that: a) I really should not be eating so many things that make me fat(ter), b) I really cannot resist Twister fries, and c) I should be very grateful McDonalds doesn't sell Twister fries all year round, or I'd be rounder than the full moon. Round. Fat, rather. Fat fat fatty fat. Oh, Twister fries! How I love thee! Fatty fatty fat fat! Oh yes, I am reminded of the other day when I taught Zoey, Shannon and Jerlyn about 'thee' and 'thou' and 'thine'. Oh I think Johnson was there too. I love medieval English. So fun. So easy to confuse people with, too.
I watched some really stupid Japanese MTV the other day, with some boyband dancing. The song was called Rock N Go! It was so super lame. One of the guys looked like Cedric with his glasses off. But I can't find it on Youtube so I can't post it here. :(
Oh I owe Erin and Xinhui Ten Things too! The wonders that come about when my pathetic memory stops being pathetic.
(The following post is meant for students of 5N1. The rest of you are free to read - and/or laugh, as the case may be.)
Hello, 5N1 people. If you are reading this post it means you are in your groups and have your 8 words already. Here is your task for English for today.
1. Use the Internet to find the following for each word:
a. type of word b. meaning(s) c. example sentence (that doesn't come from the Cats passage) d. 3 synonyms e. 3 antonyms
2. Compile this information into a Word document and label it clearly with the names of your group members.
3. Send this Word doc to msstraatenrocks at g mail dot com.
4. Write a story using the 8 words and prepare to dramatise it for the rest of the class. The meanings of the 8 words must be made clear in the dramatisation of your story.
5. Send this story to msstraatenrocks at g mail dot com as well. We will be watching each group's presentation during our coming EL lessons.
Uh. Happy new year, everyone. I think. Today was a long day - well actually it wasn't that long, but it felt long because of the interminably long session in the hall, made worse by people who didn't want to keep quiet and listen to Mr Su. I was listening to his explanations of the offences and wondering why the person committing the offence was almost always named Tom. Especially the raping and outraging modesty offences. As usual people got very excited at the definition of rape (as though they don't know how sex works), and irritated Mr Su all the more cos they kept talking and talking, so he had to stop and scold people often.
=======
I don't like scolding people, actually. I told 4E5 today that it's because I don't like wasting my energy, but that's not entirely true. I don't like scolding people because I myself don't like to be scolded, especially when I have been trying my best. Which is why I generally don't scold people. But then sometimes I have to tell people things they don't like hearing, and I don't like that either. Sigh. Why must the form teacher be the harbinger of ill tidings and aggrievances?
Oh, but 4E5, how I have missed you. It is completely bizarre, but as I stood there this morning at the front of the class, listening to the same people making the same noise (AHEM... Nicholas), somewhere in the back of my mind, I finally felt back to normal again. The holidays were interminably long and incredibly boring, and I realised today that it's because I missed my students. All my students, all the Sec 3s, and some of the other Sec 4s and 5s who say hello to me, but I mainly missed 4E5. So sad, right? Sad and pathetic-sounding, like I have no life except to love my students. But I do love them.
=======
One of the reasons I felt so upset at the end of today's programme was the stark reality of time. This is my first "new year" at Yuhua. My next "new year", my Sec 4s (my 40 darlings) will be gone. Maybe I really am lame and pathetic, but I am horribly sad at the thought, because 4E5 is my first form class, the first one I don't have to share with someone else, my first as a full-fledged teacher. And like all first loves, they have a special place in my heart.
=======
OMG SO EMO! *chills* Oh yes, by the way, I wanted to thank some people: 1) Xinhui for the lovely present - it's so pretty! Thank you! 2) Hema and Boon Hock - my "party planners" aka class chairpersons :) thanks for taking on the responsibility (which was pretty much shoved on you by your evil classmates) 3) Li Kuang, Jocelyn and Minnie for shouldering last year's burdens lol.
Oh and AHHH. Today I walked past someone, and he looked at me like he wasn't sure whether to smile or not, so I smiled, then he realised I was smiling and he smiled hesitantly - OMG. I fail at communication. Sigh. Back to being antisocial and having people think I'm mad (which I am).
