that tom's a real pervert
Friday, January 2, 2009
Uh. Happy new year, everyone. I think. Today was a long day - well actually it wasn't that long, but it felt long because of the interminably long session in the hall, made worse by people who didn't want to keep quiet and listen to Mr Su. I was listening to his explanations of the offences and wondering why the person committing the offence was almost always named Tom. Especially the raping and outraging modesty offences. As usual people got very excited at the definition of rape (as though they don't know how sex works), and irritated Mr Su all the more cos they kept talking and talking, so he had to stop and scold people often.
=======
I don't like scolding people, actually. I told 4E5 today that it's because I don't like wasting my energy, but that's not entirely true. I don't like scolding people because I myself don't like to be scolded, especially when I have been trying my best. Which is why I generally don't scold people. But then sometimes I have to tell people things they don't like hearing, and I don't like that either. Sigh. Why must the form teacher be the harbinger of ill tidings and aggrievances?
Oh, but 4E5, how I have missed you. It is completely bizarre, but as I stood there this morning at the front of the class, listening to the same people making the same noise (AHEM...
Nicholas), somewhere in the back of my mind, I finally felt back to normal again. The holidays were interminably long and incredibly boring, and I realised today that it's because I missed my students. All my students, all the Sec 3s, and some of the other Sec 4s and 5s who say hello to me, but I mainly missed 4E5. So sad, right? Sad and pathetic-sounding, like I have no life except to love my students. But I do love them.=======
One of the reasons I felt so upset at the end of today's programme was the stark reality of time. This is my first "new year" at Yuhua. My next "new year", my Sec 4s (my 40 darlings) will be gone. Maybe I really am lame and pathetic, but I am horribly sad at the thought, because 4E5 is my first form class, the first one I don't have to share with someone else, my first as a full-fledged teacher. And like all first loves, they have a special place in my heart.
=======
OMG SO EMO! *chills* Oh yes, by the way, I wanted to thank some people:
1) Xinhui for the lovely present - it's so pretty! Thank you!
2) Hema and Boon Hock - my "party planners" aka class chairpersons :) thanks for taking on the responsibility (which was pretty much shoved on you by your evil classmates)
3) Li Kuang, Jocelyn and Minnie for shouldering last year's burdens lol.
Oh and AHHH. Today I walked past
someone, and he looked at me like he wasn't sure whether to smile or not, so I smiled, then he realised I was smiling and he smiled hesitantly - OMG. I fail at communication. Sigh. Back to being antisocial and having people think I'm mad (which I am).

It was so nice to go back to school today. Not that I actually find registering a bunch of lost Sec 1s fun, but it was nice to see my students. :D Eunice and Shannon were so efficient while helping me with registration. And the boys were there too: Eugene, Klinton, Rahul, Jun De, NICHOLAS (who scolded me for taking a Sec 1 form class, WHICH I HAVEN'T, neh neh) and my favourite vice head prefect Lincoln. :) And of course my dear Melvyn, who called himself Miss Vanderstraaten. (Actually he called himself Mr Straaten as well. I think he is confused and thinking that he is my father. Poor deluded child.)
Anyway I'm late to go and see Amanda and Minnie (whose birthday is today; HAPPY BIRTHDAY MINNIE~) but I wanted to say:
1. Pervy Boy has a gig tomorrow which they scored at the super last-minute, and
2. Adam is no longer playing for them :(((((((((((, so
3. I am playing for them tomorrow. Bass. I'm quite crappy so if you want to see me make a fool of myself, we're playing at the Youth Park around 7 or 8pm. Oh and Pervy Boy merchandise will be on sale! If you want to get t-shirts, badges or stickers, by all means come and get them. Since the band (most of them) will be around you can get autographs too! :D Except mine la. You will only ever see my autographs on your report books. LOL.
Ok I'm late. They're going to kill me. They were waiting outside school LOL. Sorry girls. I shall fly there now!

happy national day
Saturday, August 9, 2008
Hope you guys enjoyed the National Day celebrations yesterday in school. I know a lot of people especially enjoyed Pervy Boy's appearance! So here are some pictures that Joshua took with my phone. (Xinhui took some too with my camera; those will be up later.)

My favourite pervy drummer - Lincoln rocks!
My favourite pervy bassist - Adam rocks!
(Hahaha I know a lot of people are going to save this picture and secretly drool over it right? Right? Lol I should start a business selling pictures of him. I'd earn more than my monthly salary.)

Andrew rocks it out with the lead guitar.

Let's give it up for Pervy Boy, people!

pervy boy @ yuhua
Saturday, July 26, 2008
It's official, guys - Pervy Boy will be playing at our school on 8 Aug for the National Day Celebrations! Everybody say 'YAY!' :D
Some things you might like to note:
1) Pervy Boy happens to be a very good-looking band (of course, since two of the members are related to me lol)
2) They will be featuring two special guest drummers (whose identities remain secret for now), but we shall all jump up and down screaming when we see who they are!
3) The playlist is also a secret for now, but just to let you know, they will be doing 2 original songs and 3 covers. AND THEY ALL ROCK. Yes yes, I am totally and completely driven toward converting every single one of my beloved readers to the Pervy Side. :)
If I'm not wrong, though, the performance segment is only for the Upper Sec. Junde am I right? I was kinda hoping the Sec 2s could have a listen as well. :) 3E5 can someone be my videographer? I may not be free to video it myself.
So exciting! I shall run off and listen to all their songs now, like the rabid fangirl that I am. :D

"hello can I see Ms Straaten pls thankew"
Monday, July 14, 2008
Xin Hui rocks! She came and handed me the journal which was due today which she hadn't finished earlier. Hmm I don't know what happened to the other people who forgot to do. A lot of people didn't bring it, or forgot about it... Sigh I shall not talk about it anymore. Felt rather emo and sad just now. Oh well... There are good days and then there are bad days. And then there are pervy days! Oh wait... That's every day. ^^
On a slightly related note, I am always very amused by the way people ask to see teachers through the staffroom intercom. Some of them are very polite, eg. "Good morning teachers, I am Xiao Xiang from 2E9, can I speak to Ms Ding-Dong-Bell please, thank you!" Others are plain confused, eg. "Hello is Ms Siti there??" As though someone is going to yell from inside, "Yeah she's here!" =.='
Mondays are long. Long, long, long. I see everybody on Monday. Today someone asked me, "Why is your blog msstraaten.blogspot.com?" I was momentarily stunned. I mean... Why not? That said, I wonder what I could have put instead. How about msstraatenrules.blogspot.com? Or everybodyspervy.blogspot.com? Maybe daydreamqueen.blogspot.com? All generally apply.
In other news, I
really need to sleep. -.-

running, running
Friday, July 11, 2008

I did no running today. I am allergic to running. In fact I am allergic to most sports, except maybe badminton because it's very difficult to be bad at badminton. It was more fun watching people (pretend to) run. :D Anyway today's photographers were Sahil, Cedric and I think Ryan. Or maybe Ryan was silent support. Not sure. Here are the highlights:

Whose horrible fingernails - I mean, talons are those?

The rain that never came...
Someone's missing shoe. And my favourite -
Cedric's stalker picture of his favourite (only) Maths teacher.
People who didn't show up today, naughty naughty! Your prize is a date with Mr Su on Monday, perhaps for detention. Oops.
Oh yes, tonight was also the Parent-Teacher Meeting for the Sec 2s and their parents. I stood around trying to be useful and mostly failing, because the prefects were running around doing all the work, poor things. They did a great job though, everything was running nicely. I found the talk about motivation very interesting. In fact I noticed that there are a few people in 3E5 who show signs of low motivation. Hmm. I am turning into everybody's second mother. Just now one of the prefects asked me jokingly, "Parent of whom?" and I replied, "3E5."
Anyway after that talked to Eugene, Melvyn, Li Hui and Davina (hope I spelled it right) for a bit. And no, Eugene, Melvyn is NOT my darling. Tsk.
By the way, everybody who wrote me letters, meaning Xin Hui, Hema, Musarrat, Minnie, and the collaboration team of Hema, Li Hui, Pei Ling, Yew Liang and Eugene, thanks for making the mailbox so busy. You'll get your replies on Monday ok? :) Here's a picture of the collaborative artwork. I'm so pleased with it I think I shall frame it up.
Thanks guys, it made my day. :)

are you pervy?
Thursday, July 10, 2008

Ladies and gentlemen, the post on yesterday's learning journey to the Civic District! (Percussionists, drumrolls please :D) There are way too many pictures so I'll just put up a few that I like. Our photographers for this session were Joshua and Minnie.

Okay I know the lady who led us around was very intent on bombarding us with information. But if you were listening carefully you might have noticed she did give a lot of very interesting facts which you wouldn't have learnt in history class (or anywhere else besides a tour of Singapore :S). I think it helped that she belongs to a few generations before you and me, because (as my parents like to say) old fogies know a lot more.
When I was in Sec One my school sent some of us on a trip called the Battlefield Study Tour, because we were covering the Japanese Occupation. That was a really good trip to go on - they brought us to the Battle Box at Fort Canning, and they brought us to this other place (can't remember if it's the same) where they were showing us how the soldiers used it as a lookout to fend off incoming troops. There was this really narrow staircase, narrow and steep, and climbing it was really scary. And the guide told us that soldiers didn't just have to climb it, they had to RUN up the stairs... awful thought. Anyway that was one of the cool things. They also took us to Changi Hospital and the Kranji War Memorial. War is sad. The story part of war - who fought whom, for what stupid reason, where they cocked up in their strategies, etc - is fascinating in itself. But remembering that people died because of other people's stupidity/pride/ambition, that's really sad.
If you want to see the other pictures that I've got from this session you can look
here and
here. Unfortunately I haven't been able to upload the pictures that Joshua took with his phone, so you can check back in a couple of days and I should have them up by then.
See you tomorrow for the cross-country! People who are intending to PONTENG (translation? :P), be warned I will not accept nonsense like "I had fever at 6:52am which went away at 6:58am but I decided to stay at home and rest. And not get an MC". Even if I accepted it other people will still hunt you down so you might as well come and have fun. :)
