Yesterday I asked 3E5 to practise writing narrative essays because we had only been doing discursive and I was afraid most people had forgotten how to write a narrative. So I gave them a few choices and they wrote stuff.
I read them last night and this morning and I LOL'ed at so many (not in a bad way, but because they were entertaining). And this month's prize for Most Hilarious Statement In A Narrative Essay goes to Lincoln, who wrote:
Eugene was singing like a happy pigeon, Nicholas was growing obese everyday and me, myself, was working the best of my life for my end-of-year exams...EUGENE = PIGEON
NICHOLAS = OBESE
MS STRAATEN = DEAD FROM LAUGHING
:D
By the way before I forget, I was telling my Tuesday group this the other day, thought it would be useful for everyone:
There's a rule for using the words 'more' and 'most', and it depends on the number of syllables in the word. Let's use
nice as our first example.
Nice, Nicer, NicestNice has only one syllable so instead of using 'more' and 'most' we just add "r" and "st" at the end.
Our second example needs two-syllable words, so let's use
funny and
stupid.
Funny, Funnier, FunniestFunny follows the rule for one-syllable words, that is, adding 'r' and 'st'. In this case because of the 'y' at the end of the word, we add 'ier' and 'iest' instead. How about
stupid?
Stupid, Stupider, Stupidest? The rule for two-syllable words that don't end with a vowel sound is that you use 'more' and 'most'.
Stupid, More Stupid, Most StupidHow about three-syllable words? Let's use
confusing and
hilarious.Confusing, More Confusing, Most ConfusingHilarious, More Hilarious, Most HilariousDoes that make sense? Hope so. :D The only exceptions to this rule I think are the words good and bad.
Good, Better (not more better!),
BestBad, Worse, WorstTa-da! Online English lesson! Sigh now I have to go invigilate. Bye.
